Biography:

While I head content for a leading radio station in the UAE, I am also a film critic with a consistent body of work since 2014. Films are my absolute passion and I believe there is no better place than a cinema hall. I am happiest when I am there. I review films for the Times of India and I have my own show called First Day First Show with Ronak Kotecha on Tata Sky Showbizz - a subscriber based channel on India's biggest DTH platform Tata Sky with 67.56 million, as of 31 December 2017. I also review films for my radio station, you can find those on www.radio4fm.com. Before moving to Dubai, I reviewed films for Bollywood Hangout - a Youtube channel with 260,740 subscribers.

Mercy (2026) 24% 3.5/5 EDIT “Overall, Mercy may be a somewhat campy sci-fi thriller built on a straightforward idea of unchecked AI dominance, but it executes that idea with enough urgency and imagination. ” – The Times of India Jan 23, 2026 Full Review 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026) 92% 2.5/5 EDIT “The film demands a fair amount of memory-jogging through previous instalments to be fully appreciated—and ironically, revisiting them only reinforces how much stronger those earlier films truly were.” – The Times of India Jan 15, 2026 Full Review Anaconda (2025) 48% 2.5/5 EDIT “The script is so frustratingly inconsistent that it robs the film of its inherent potential to entertain.” – The Times of India Dec 29, 2025 Full Review The Great Shamsuddin Family (2025) 3/5 EDIT “Made on a modest canvas, The Great Shamsuddin Family may not be “great” in scale, but it carries sincerity, relatability, and an honest reflection of the times we live in.” – The Times of India Dec 16, 2025 Full Review Dracula (2025) 54% 3.5/5 EDIT “In the end, Dracula: A Love Tale isn’t a cinematic milestone, but it is a compelling, emotionally charged story that’s less terrifying and more heartbreakingly human.” – The Times of India Dec 11, 2025 Full Review Zootopia 2 (2025) 91% 3.5/5 EDIT “Zootopia 2 is undeniably enjoyable – funny, sweet and beautifully animated, but like most sequels, it never quite reaches the freshness or surprise of the original. The franchise clearly has room to go bolder.” – The Times of India Dec 2, 2025 Full Review Sisu: Road to Revenge (2025) 95% 4/5 EDIT “It’s a cold, violent, deeply satisfying road-to-revenge story that delivers adrenaline, spectacle, and a protagonist you can’t help but root for. A brutal and entertaining continuation of Korpi’s myth.” – The Times of India Nov 21, 2025 Full Review The Running Man (2025) 62% 3/5 EDIT “The Running Man doesn’t reinvent its genre or outsmart its audience, but it delivers a slick, fast-paced survival thriller that’s both entertaining and thought-provoking.” – The Times of India Nov 14, 2025 Full Review Being Eddie (2025) 75% 2/5 EDIT “It’s like watching a polished PR piece rather than a true excavation of a legend’s life. The intimacy you might expect—raw talk about failure, regret, or redemption is largely absent.” – The Times of India Nov 12, 2025 Full Review Jatadhara (2025) 3/5 EDIT “At times, Jatadhara strays into the bizarre, even veering into moments of unintended humour, but its commitment to exploring greed, faith, and superstition keeps it grounded in intent. ” – The Times of India Nov 7, 2025 Full Review Single Salma (2025) 3/5 EDIT “Overall, Single Salma is a sincere attempt that manages to make its point even if it’s more preachy than powerful. It’s a sweet, well-intentioned film that makes its point, just without much spark or surprise.” – The Times of India Nov 6, 2025 Full Review Nuremberg (2025) 72% 4/5 EDIT “Director and writer James Vanderbilt crafts a compelling piece of cinema that is intelligent, immersive and uncomfortably reflective. It may not reinvent the courtroom drama, but it reminds us why the story matters – not only historically but in our time.” – The Times of India Nov 5, 2025 Full Review Black Phone 2 (2025) 72% 2.5/5 EDIT “Anyone watching this sequel without seeing the first film will likely be lost — not because the story is complex, but because it’s poorly told. ” – The Times of India Nov 2, 2025 Full Review Bugonia (2025) 88% 3.5/5 EDIT “It’s weird, wild, and not meant to be fully understood — but it’s definitely hard to look away from.” – The Times of India Oct 30, 2025 Full Review The Woman in Cabin 10 (2025) 28% 3/5 EDIT “For those drawn to mysteries with psychological leanings, this delivers enough twists and ambiance to keep things interesting.” – The Times of India Oct 13, 2025 Full Review Caught Stealing (2025) 85% 3.5/5 EDIT “It may not rank among Aronofsky’s most profound works, but it’s an engrossing, unpredictable watch that keeps you invested till the end — a messy, adrenaline-charged portrait of survival in its purest form.” – The Times of India Oct 10, 2025 Full Review One Battle After Another (2025) 94% 4/5 EDIT “This chaotic drama is one of the year’s more interesting films. It asks for patience, and while not always neat or decisive, its standout performances, striking visuals and risky emotional core make it a sort of a cinematic revolution.” – The Times of India Sep 26, 2025 Full Review Nobody 2 (2025) 76% 3.5/5 EDIT “The action is loud, cleverly choreographed and frequently entertaining, but the dramatic stakes sometimes feel cursory.” – The Times of India Aug 25, 2025 Full Review Tehran (2025) 3.5/5 EDIT “The movie’s strength is its authenticity...Its weakness is the sheer density of the plot. At times the film feels overloaded with detail and characters, which can dilute emotional impact.” – The Times of India Aug 20, 2025 Full Review Freakier Friday (2025) 73% 3.5/5 EDIT “...Freakier Friday lives up to its title, delivering a fresh, freakier—and friggin’ good—family comedy that evokes nostalgia for the original, even if it’s a bit overstuffed.” – The Times of India Aug 11, 2025 Full Review Holy Ghost (2025) 3/5 EDIT “Its limited performances and undercooked subplots hold it back from being truly memorable. But it remains an ambitious effort that dares to blend procedural crime drama with a ghost story, and in doing so, offers a different kind of thriller...” – The Times of India Aug 6, 2025 Full Review Detective Sherdil (2025) 2.5/5 EDIT “Unfortunately, this murder mystery leans so heavily on predictable genre tropes that even its twists feel painfully obvious...the film attempts to deliver a snappy whodunit-meets-dark comedy, but ends up feeling like a checklist of missed opportunities.” – The Times of India Jul 23, 2025 Full Review Smurfs (2025) 21% 3/5 EDIT “While the film has its charming moments, it genuinely lacks the humour and laughs that could have made it more memorable. It follows a very tried-and-tested template without venturing into bold or adventurous storytelling territory.” – The Times of India Jul 18, 2025 Full Review I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) 36% 3.5/5 EDIT “...‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ offers exactly what it promises: relentless thrills, non-stop supply of blood and gore and a hefty dose of nostalgia. ” – The Times of India Jul 18, 2025 Full Review Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) 50% 3.5/5 EDIT “In the end, Jurassic World Rebirth doesn’t reinvent the franchise—it doubles down on dinosaur mayhem. It stumbles when balancing character depth with creature spectacle, but it soars when the hybrids take flight.” – The Times of India Jul 7, 2025 Full Review
